Aspect Research Associates (ARA) is a software technology firm founded by Dean Wampler, Ph.D. It is based in Chicago and serves clients around the world.

We specialize in the problem of integrating Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence technologies with Fast Data Systems, that is streaming data systems.

Our expertise includes the following:

• Fast Data and Big Data: Dean has spent the past five years conceiving and leading the development of Lightbend Fast Data Platform, the most complete commercial distribution for streaming data. Before that, he worked with clients on Machine Learning and analytics projects for Hadoop, using technologies like Spark (especially SparkML and SparkSQL) and Hive.
• Software Design Paradigms: Dean helps clients find the right balance of Functional, Object-Oriented, and Aspect-Oriented Programming for building systems.
• Language Ecosystems: Dean is a recognized expert in Scala. He wrote Programming Scala (O'Reilly, 2009, 2015, 2021). He also has years of experience with Java and many other languages in use in DevOps and Data Science environments.
• Team Leadership: Management, team building, and mentoring, including Agile approaches like XP, Scrum, and Lean, scaled from small teams up to enterprises.
